Middle School 6-8

Recognizing the importance of these formative years, the MSD of Pike Township has strengthened Middle School academic rigor to continue building the foundation for an educational environment committed to academic excellence. This environment is responsive to the unique needs of adolescent learners and includes: challenging curricula, student engagement, critical thinking for deeper understanding, and opportunities that allow students to reach their full potential.

The adopted class schedule for middle schools increases academic rigor through expanded instructional time. Offerings include a full year of foreign language in the seventh and eighth grade, honors classes in the four core subject areas, and consistent curricula throughout all district middle schools. There will be a 100 percent increase in reading and language arts instruction, with algebra, computer keyboarding and advanced skills available at all grade levels. Math and language arts tutorials are offered to students during the course of the school day, and choices of related arts classes are available. Students performing at advanced levels may also benefit from participation in our High Ability Program and will continue to benefit from the Advanced Placement and IB courses offered at Pike High School.

The Indiana General Assembly enacted a new law July 2008, which requires 6th grade students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to develop an initial graduation plan. Please click on the link below for additional information about this new requirement:
